Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. For thousands of years, practitioners of TCM have mapped out your body’s 12 main meridians, pathways that carry Qi (vital life energy pronounced ‘chee’) throughout your body.

Promote your body’s healing abilities by regulating the flow of Qi through these meridians. When Qi flows freely, well-being is restored.

If you have a chronic problem, several treatments maybe required. If your problem is acute, a couple appointments may do the trick.

Cupping

Cupping therapy will release out the toxins in the body. The suction from the cups can penetrate deep into the body tissues causing the tissues to release harmful toxins. Cupping will open the meridians for the internal energy to flow through the body.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a form of fire heat treatment that stimulate specific acupuncture points in the body. Moxibustion therapy combined with acupuncture can be very effective for many conditions including asthma, diarrhea, rheumatic and abdominal pain, vomiting, and any kind of pain due to cold or deficiency.

Tuina/Acupressure

Tui Na massage the muscles and tendons with the help of hands. This acupressure technique directly affects the flow of Qi at different acupressure points of the body, thus facilitating the healing process. It removes the blockages and keeps the energy moving through the meridians as well as the muscles.

Guasha

Guasha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves scraping your skin with a massage tool to improve your circulation. This ancient Chinese healing technique may offer a unique approach to better health, addressing issues like chronic pain such as arthritis and fibromyalgia, as well as those that trigger muscle and joint pain and may also relieve symptoms of other conditions. Guasha is intended to break up stagnant Qi in the body, which is responsible for inflammation, to help reduce the inflamation and to promote healing. Inflammation is the underlying cause of several conditions associated with chronic pain.

Herbal Remedies

Chinese Herbs are formulated and individualized to suit the subtle nuances of the condition and constitution of the patient, and creates a balanced, synergistic effect that reflects the holistic nature of the diagnosis. Points to Wellness Clinics purchases herbs and supplements from US-based companies with impeccable reputations for quality control. This assures that you will receive exactly the herbs you are prescribed and that they will be free from contaminants.

Nutritional counseling

According to Eastern nutritional theory, every food has its own property and an effect on the body. Foods are classified as either hot, warm, neutral cool or cold in nature. The flavors are normally broken into six groups; sour, bitter, sweet, spicy, salty, and bland. Each nature and flavor has an affinity for specific organs and Qi pathways.

We will advise on an individualized nutritional plan to best suit your needs, and that incorporates the tenets of Chinese medical theory. This can dramatically change the way you look, feel and think about your health.

Facial Rejuvenation

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is an integral approach that treats underlying factors contributing to the aging process, promotes lymphatic drainage, improves blood circulation, and brings vital nutrients and oxygen to the muscles and skin cells. Facial massage and acupressure with the essential oils follows the acupuncture treatment. This encourages collagen and elastin production, which means a more radiant complexion. Along with external skin benefits, it also improves your overall internal wellness leading to better mood, sleep, and digestion . It is a natural way to stimulate your body’s own natural healing process and reduces existing fine lines and wrinkles. There are no synthetic fillers in these needles. Your skin may look brighter with an improved firmness and supple tone immediately after a treatment, however, these effects can last years longer after 8-12 treatments.

Essential Oils

An essential oil is a volatile lipid portion of a plant, that can be extracted by steam distillation. An essential oil contains hundreds of frequencies; some of these are close to organs' cell frequencies and their harmonics. Each essential oil has its unique aromatic constituent but shares the same action potential: high evaporation speed, small chemical constituent, and target focus.

As part of our non-needling modality alternatives, essential oil is perfect for anyone who is anxious about of filiform needles. Essential oil use has been recorded in many cultures for about a thousand years, and has recently been backed by clinical research. Not only does its fragrance facilitate a soothing ambience, essential oil has also been shown to support good oral hygiene, improve skin appearance, clear breathing and assist the respiratory system, promote healthy digestion, and has many more benefits. This means that the essential oil can reach and affect its intended target area quickly. Points to Wellness Clinics only uses the purest high quality essential oil with the CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®.

FAQ

  • What are the side effects of Acupuncture?

The side effects are mostly positive-calmer, lighter, more relaxed sensations. At the needle site or in another part of the body, you may experience tingling, warmth, tenderness, or a pulsing feeling. This is normal and relates to the energy moving through the body. These sensations usually dissipate quickly. At times, there may be a chance of some pain in the treatment area, minor bruising, or scarring. Occasionally a treatment can produce a temporary flare-up of symptoms, but these usually clear up in 2-3 days. Awareness of the patient's condition can avert most harms. To avoid accidental needle removal or breakage, patients must limit their movement while on the table. By following the instructions of the acupuncture practitioner before and after treatment, the patient can lower the chances of the risks discussed above from occurring.

  • How does lifestyle and diet complement the treatments?

Even though acupuncture can help moderate your food and indulgent cravings, by altering your metabolic rate, immune function, and hormone levels related to weight loss, it is recommended to complement such treatment with proper diet, regular physical, intellectual, and spiritual exercise, rest and adequate sleep. Regular acupuncture sessions doesn’t mean that you can eat whatever you want, nor does it mean that you should stop going to the gym or being physically active 4-5 times per week.

  • Can I get acupuncture even if I don't have any apparent physical issue?

Absolutely yes. Acupuncture can help boost up your immune system and provide an important "tune-up" to your body, mind, and spirit. Through acupuncture, you can achieve balance and stay healthy with higher energy levels, increased sense of well-being and lower frequency of sickness.

  • What to expect during first visit?

Along with your initial treatment, we will review your medical history, provide consultation and formulate a customized treatment plan. This session would take up to 90 minutes. If appropriate, we may use other modalities such as cupping, moxibustion, tuina or guasha. Afterward, we may offer dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
